How do I know it's time to leave?

It is different for everyone. For me, leaving would have to do with the culture, management style, internal politics, and my personal strengths for the role.  Have I done this before?  Yes! I left Benin Electricity Distribution Plc for MainOne. I worked with the company for about 4 years (3 years and 6 months). A key reason was the management style and I got to a point where I didn't see any senior role that I looked forward to. I can remember standing by the window of the Regional Head's office at Oba Asida road, looking at the staff as they moved about. My thought was leaving. I could see the Service Managers pass by with some chit-chat amongst themselves - the role didn't interest me. Not even the Business Manager's role, having had a taste of working with all and seating in meetings with both Business Heads and Service Unit head every two weeks. As a technical Rep to the South West Regional head, I had to seat in these meetings. I was given a dual role some week bef...

From Life to Death.

My thoughts.  Two people (Eyilade & Ekpemi)  I knew went to be with God last year (2022). Before this time, It never hit home on the passing of people. I probably didn't take some minutes like I did on the influence I have had on the lives of the people around me.  My first experience as I remember now was during my primary school at the University of Lagos Staff Primary school, Idi-araba (Annex school). I was told the headmistress of the main school had died and we would attend the event. I did attend and the only sorrowful experience was the song "Rock of Ages".  Rock of Ages, cleft for me, Let me hide myself in thee; Let the water and the blood, From thy wounded side which flowed, Be of sin the double cure; Save from wrath and make me pure.   The song still rings in my head as I type this. It's funny how my colleagues & I (in Primary 6 or Year 6) were behind my dad's pick-up truck and we smiled and laughed as he drove back to school after the ev...

Less Talk. More Action

I first heard the words "Less Talk, More Action" from Anthony Joshua after the Kubrat Pulev fight in December 2020. Please ignore that he lost to Oleksandr Usyk in 2021.  We seem to need this today as Nigerians (or maybe other parts of the world) more than ever. There is a lot of talk by millions of people with a few taking action. We see a lot of wrong in our nation and communities we live in but do little to address them. I commend those that take actions no matter how small or effective in addressing the issues we face.  Let's leave the nation for a second. Our individual lives. I presume if we are a success in our lives, we can be more successful collectively. We need to rise! In February 2023, we will go to the polls. I do hope we elect the right set of people this time. Seems we have a structure that does not help in selecting the best people...some will say...But I do think if each person makes a difference with 1 vote, we would move closer to the point we need to ...

Happy New Year!

2021. Already a year of Abundance. It is amazing I did not write on this page between 2019 and 2020.  However, the year just started and I have decided to make it a point of duty to pen down the words that will make the year.  It all started during the cross-over service with the new thinkings (Yes, I added the 's') that is beginning to make the round in the face of the COVID pandemic. New thinkings that Churches have to embrace that you don't have to hold the cross over service into Jan 1 and it can be done at anytime as different people around the world get into Jan 1 at different times. The world is indeed GLOBAL. The foremost person that pushed this was Sam Adeyemi. I worshipped online with the Foursquare Gospel Church VGC. However, I had taken a sneak peek at two other churches online (Global Mission Church in Indonesia as they got into 2021 earlier & David's Christian Center at Lekki, Lagos).  From the Global Mission Church, I could only follow the subtitles o...

I was at a Toastmasters Club

Been wanting to do this. I had my first visit to a Toastmasters club yesterday. I spent about an hour and a half. It was worth it. I visited the Elevation Toastmaster's club at the Elevation church, Lekki. This was a good choice for me as it is close to home (Home now is Ologolo, near Jakande, Lekki Expressway). I took part in the Table-Talk session and got good feedback. I spoke for 2 minutes on the topic: If you could travel back in time, within your family history, Who would you love to meet and why? My evaluator said I made use of the pause fillers (Kiitan had told me earlier when I was to make a presentation at work) and needed to make eye contact with my audience when speaking. She used the CRC method. Commend, Recommend and Commend again. I also listened to some prepared speeches by Toastmasters. I would love to attend again and join within the month. The next session is on 17th November 2018. I look forward to making prepared speeches myself.

Why I took it the offer!

I'll be straight. I took it to learn . To learn how Sales works in a different sphere. different from the electricity business. I have always had a passion for power. That's what drove me to work with the power sector. I didn't take it because my dad worked there. He didn't even have a part to play in my getting the job with BEDC, maybe we can say his' paying for my Power training course with NAPTIN which took about a Million Naira or over, was a part of it. But the power business was too direct. Monopolistic! I learnt a few things in the business but the lessons I got was limiting in my perspective. if I was to run an electricity business afterwards, I'll be good with it. Before the opportunity to work as a Product Analyst with MainOne came, I had told Kiitan I wanted to learn about Sales. I had even applied for a Business Analyst role 3 or 4 months before to get close to it. I wouldn't want to remove the part of the role paying more. It does (in...

Change of Job. Relocation too!

I joined 16th April, 2016. I left BEDC 11th April, 2016. It was a good farewell. I had given a month's notice and also taught Opeyemi all I knew. He was to take over the two roles (Technical Assistant and Training Coordinator). He did and he is doing better at it (visited him about 3 weeks ago). Joining MainOne as a Product Analyst for the data centre has been a good experience. I won't say awesome as I have learnt not to feel too 'jivy' about a new job. I have noted difference in the way I was treated in my former place of work and here. I sometimes say that HR is non-existent over there when I have to compare.  I remember when I was invited for the Essay/interview. I observed the people and the workplace. There and then, I had decided that I wanted to be here (I told Kiitan this immediately after). There was something about the way they carried themselves. There was something about the environment (maybe because they were all young or so). Me...
