Less Talk. More Action

I first heard the words "Less Talk, More Action" from Anthony Joshua after the Kubrat Pulev fight in December 2020. Please ignore that he lost to Oleksandr Usyk in 2021.

We seem to need this today as Nigerians (or maybe other parts of the world) more than ever. There is a lot of talk by millions of people with a few taking action. We see a lot of wrong in our nation and communities we live in but do little to address them. I commend those that take actions no matter how small or effective in addressing the issues we face.

Let's leave the nation for a second. Our individual lives. I presume if we are a success in our lives, we can be more successful collectively. We need to rise!

In February 2023, we will go to the polls. I do hope we elect the right set of people this time. Seems we have a structure that does not help in selecting the best people...some will say...But I do think if each person makes a difference with 1 vote, we would move closer to the point we need to reach. Tinubu has declared to run for President, but do we need Tinubu at this time? He might be a good administrator but I think we would be recycling the same set of minds. Could Osinbajo or Adeshina of AFDB be given a chance? if you think tribal, can we get a sound person from the East (Note I said sound - not young, maybe young at heart) who has an untainted record to live up to? I hope.

Asides the polls, we can each make a change in our little areas (I understand you sphere of influence might be BIG...so yea...it applies also). I thought of this with a few people a year ago and we considered the different sector that could help influence results at the polls.

Education was key. People need to see through the strategy of some politicians during elections. Thus, providing some form of education for people would do a lot of good. No matter how small.

The belief that Nigeria can be better if we do better is another. We need to find a way to stir this belief in our people. It might start small but it is required.

Also, Good governance is essential. How do get this done? I applaud those in government today for the work they do. But we can do better. Seems we know what to do but the will to do is missing sometimes. This is evident in some actions undertaken by the government when it favours the people in that strata of government. e.g. The Presidency and Twitter, Lagos government and the Bikes on the Expressways popularly called Okada etc.

I started this conversation with 'Less Talk, more action". I seem to have written a lot and yet to take any action. Now i need to look at myself in the mirror and consider my actions more critically.

The Vacation Idea

Kiity and I differ on this. What is a vacation? What is a retreat? Kiity made me think of retreat. To me, every time away from work is a vacation. This is my simple definition.  I recall when I was studying. The same definition applied. Anytime away from school is a vacation. When the school is not in session, we are on vacation. The same has applied to my work life.  But Kiity sees it differently. She had to google this and the AI overview gave the feedback below: A vacation is primarily for relaxation and fun, while a retreat focuses on personal growth, self-reflection, and often includes structured activities aimed at improving well-being Kiity is right by this definition. I have told her.  In my own world, it seems definitions are simple and when adhered to, makes my life simple. Where did all this come from? It came from a post Kiity made on Polarsteps about "our first Family Vacation". I looked at it and said we had done a lot of vacations in the past based o...

An Open Letter to Kunfaiyeoluwa

I would love to draft a long letter to you. But the thoughts and words captured above say a lot that I want you to carry on for the rest of your life.  You indeed have a legacy to cherish and to build on. Your mum, grand-mums and great-grand-mums are one of the strongest and determined persons I have met and I know the seed lives on in you. Yes, I did come to know them all and I see the foundation you have to lean on. You are Royalty both Spiritually and by Land Origin. 1 Pet 2:9 reminds me of your spiritual royalty and the knowledge that you are of the origin of men who have reigned as Kings in Nigeria both in Kogi and Ondo States. Therefore, let the words scribed above by the Queen of the Southern Nigerian Kingdom bring light to you today and for every other day. I was watching a movie during the past weekend and it showcased a Father who stood by his daughter even when the whole community were against her. I would like you to know that I would be by your side from Day 1 t...

The Many Walks with Kiity

Ever heard of the benefits of 30 minutes walk everyday?  I bet you have. Walking is a great way to improve or maintain our overall health. Just 30 minutes every make a change in your life. I took a walk for 1 hour once and I felt the effects. It was about 8km in all and I could feel my legs tingling when I finished. The next day, the muscles spoke and I was happy.  Kiity and I enjoy taking lots of walks. We did that a lot in Nigeria both individually and together. I enjoy it more when we do it together. Since we arrived the Netherlands in April this year, we have had several walks and I enjoy it more when we do it together.   Walking over a small bridge, De Poel, Amstelveen I decide to take walks for many reasons;  - To exercise. - To clear my head and away from the familiar - To see the environment and new places. - To breathe a different air. The most important is to talk. This is when I do it with Kiity. We have to talk about something as we go.  W...
