Finished the TCS Marathon Good Morning City Run

A Group Photo - Ran with this group Finished the 6.5km run!  And I am happy to have done this one month after the 8km Dam tot Dam loop run. It allowed me put the running shoes to work again. I had only run once after the Dam tot Dam loop 8km run and was already feeling out of shape. Met Thibault during the run and snapped the picture above. Had a good conversation with him. We talked almost through the run. Thibault & I taking at the Finish line How was the run?  It was a tourist run. There were different groups of 10 to 15 with 2 guides per team. When I say tourist run, I mean the guides showed us around the Amsterdam area. I also mean we got to stop at different points but not for long - probably 20-30 seconds per time with the longest wait being about 1 minute.  What was I given?  I got no medal. If you want a medal, you need to participate in the races. However, I was given a hand band to signify participation in the tourist run. Also got a ticket for ...

The Many Walks with Kiity

Ever heard of the benefits of 30 minutes walk everyday?  I bet you have. Walking is a great way to improve or maintain our overall health. Just 30 minutes every make a change in your life. I took a walk for 1 hour once and I felt the effects. It was about 8km in all and I could feel my legs tingling when I finished. The next day, the muscles spoke and I was happy.  Kiity and I enjoy taking lots of walks. We did that a lot in Nigeria both individually and together. I enjoy it more when we do it together. Since we arrived the Netherlands in April this year, we have had several walks and I enjoy it more when we do it together.   Walking over a small bridge, De Poel, Amstelveen I decide to take walks for many reasons;  - To exercise. - To clear my head and away from the familiar - To see the environment and new places. - To breathe a different air. The most important is to talk. This is when I do it with Kiity. We have to talk about something as we go.  W...

So We Do Not Forget (SWDNF) Stories

I have decided to document stories of God's acts in my life going forward. Please note that I might not document all the stories but would try my best to write the most I can.  I recall watching a YouTube Video on the Lakewood church last week and the speaker, a lady mentioned writing our God stories. I had a lot of stories to tell but then I would not call it God stories but 'So we do not forget'. I recall sending a link to Kiity of one of the topic on this blog and we realized how much history we had documented here and have actually forgotten.  This is my reason to do the SWDNF. It's not going to be a popular acronym as it does not spark an immediate connection. However, I do not aim for it to be popular as always. God has been Good.

SWDNF2: Praising God delivered Kiity and I

Yes. It did. I woke up this morning and remembered a scene in a movie series called Abattoir, where some fellowship students were praising God and their fellow student was raised back to life. I immediately remembered an occurrence in our life. Probably two strange ones come to mind. But this one first. It was in April 2018. I had recently resigned from BEDC and would have to leave the BEDC training school where I doubled as the BEDC Power systems School training coordinator and Technical assistant to the South West Regional head of BEDC. I had to leave the Elizade University environment where we held the training courses. I drove in a Kia Rio 2014 with Kiity and were on the way to Alagbaka in Akure where our house was.  On the way, just by FUTA gate, some undocumented local government billers who looked like riff-raffs stopped us and put road blockers on the way. The car we drove in was partly private and partly owned by the bank. They mentioned that since the bank's name was on t...

Dam tot Dam loop Business Run - 5miles or 8km - Done!

Yes, I did. And it was fun. I ran the Dam tot Dam loop Business Run 5Miles. And it was amazing to do this for the first time ever in 2024.  I got to know about the run about 2 months ago during a chat with Jana Reiss and I was interested. I had seen a friend and former line manager at MainOne, Ayomide, run marathons and amass medals from the run. I have also seen another former line manager, Vremudia run a lot including the marathons.  Living in the Netherlands made it easy to join the band wagon. You have roads with a bicycle path and the walk way aside the road for cars. Thus, I loved to joined the band wagon and have now taken part in the first long distance run.  I did the run the 8K in 1:08:10 Hrs. the best runner of the day did it in 25 mins. A pretty long way to get to for me. But I recall in my practice, the first time I did the 8K was 1:15:00 Hrs and the second time 1:09:00 Hrs. So a little improvement but definitely within my plan. I wasn't aiming to be t...

My experience with Giving

Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again. I would like to focus on giving to God or in God's house. It also applies to people. It is a blessing to give to people. Kiity and I have been beneficiaries of being blessed and we have had the privilege to bless people.  God's house is a place where you are blessed, where you serve or where you worship. For me, I am connected to the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria, the Living Faith Church International (Nigeria) and the Crossroads International Church (Netherlands).  My experience with giving in God's house spans many stories. Here, I do not talk about the regular Tithe and offerings we give when we go for a church service. I talk about giving outside this. Kiity and I both believe in tithing and giving our offerings.  I should add that we should...

A note to my girls

I have retained the Blog title "Nigerian boy" on this Blog till 38. You should be my baby girls even till 38 years I guess. Not that I wish to change to "the Nigerian man" by 78 anyway.   Let's get to the talk. I am on my way to the office at 7.55am, sitting in a red OV transport Bus, going by Ouderkerk Oost in Amstelveen, Netherlands and I thought to pen down a note to you. It is at this point that a little girl comes up to sit beside me in the long, red electric bus whirling away to Holterbergweg bus stop in Amsterdam, where I would alight and walk to the office.    What did I want to say? There is a verse of scripture that comes to my mind at this moment and it is found in Psalm 37:25...which says:  " I have been young and now I am old, yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken nor his seed begging bread ".  The journey of life is amazing. It is beautiful because you will have many moments. You will have many challenges. But in all, you are victori...

Worlds and Opposites

Nigeria and Netherlands. Now I get to see what the difference between a developing and a developed nation. They are like the Word and Opposite I got to know about in Primary school.  It's been a little over two weeks here in the Netherlands and I can see so many differences. We got here on the 29th of May, 2024 via the Schipol Airport.  To my main discuss. When the developed countries speak of the developing countries, they make it sound like the developing countries are unserious. Now I inderstand better. There are certain things that work or are made to work that the developing countries still struggle with. No doubt we have formed our own model of these things but compared to the ones set in place in the developed countries, they fall short.  Would speak to six areas in a bit, comparing Netherlands to Nigeria. 1. Time and value The value for time is shown in the little details. You get a taste of it when you experience the bus or transportation system. Even without a c...

The beginning of another Journey

Learning to lease the web. I have come to understand that companies are not perfect. Learnt that at my last job. Neither am I anyway. When I left BEDC and spent about a week at MainOne..it felt like what we know as Word and opposite. The BEDC experience was whack..compared to MainOne. It still is anyway, from what I hear. Let's not go too far..it is more of a process thingy for me.  I would always be grateful for the MainOne experience. I would never have learnt about real business if not for MainOne. I had a great time at BEDC while I was there but there was a need for more. MainOne gave that to me. I got to see companies competing with one another, I got to see marketing in full view including the interactions between the different arms of business in a different light. And then the need for more came again... This is where Leaseweb came into the picture. It's a really long story to tell of how I came to be at Leaseweb. But I am here...the picture above is that of...

Another Relocation?

Yes - Another Relocation. Leaving Benin Electricity Distribution Company for MainOne meant leaving Ondo State, Nigeria for Lagos State, Nigeria. It also meant Kiity would have to return to Lagos. She had left Lagos for Ondo state after we got married.  Looking back, I could tell that I have had to move from one location to another due to my work or due to jobs I accept.  This time around, the job offer I got would not only take me away from Lagos but away from Nigeria. This also meant Kiity would have to move. If you have read my earlier post, you would know I had craved a move away from MainOne. Things looked promising with the acquisition by Equinix which meant MainOne would become Equinix West Africa - An international organization which would see me have colleagues in every continent in the world. But I chose to leave.  I got a job in the Netherlands before the end of February 2024. And I would have to resume on the 1st of May, 2024 at the Amsterdam office. I ch...

I left

MainOne I mean.  I did say I wanted to move. And I made the decision in February 2024. I signed up with another organisation and was to resume by 1st May 2024.  In the picture above are Yours truly, Ebinabo, Patience and Korede. They are colleagues who were around on Thursday evening before I left the office. Thursday 25th was the day before my last day. The Technical solutions team (product team was a part of this) had organised an farewell event for me...the Sendforth..Heard some wonderful words..Sayo, Gbolahan, Lola and a few other people were present.  They also gave me a  beautiful card with each person sharing their words and signing...I recall I received a similar card when leaving BEDC but this was close to home as I had spent the last 6 years here. April 16th sparked the beginning of Year 7. But.... I had typed out a mail to be sent to all or specific people but didn't get to send as things turned to a rush wit...
