There was a protest today! 08-10-2015

The protests are not new anymore. I've seen so many of them that it has become normal to expect them and act accordingly.

But we rarely see the ones where they prepare to cook at the front of the company gate like the one on the pictures.

This day last year, I resumed as a BEDC staff, resuming after the muslim holidays that took place on the 6th and 7th day of the month. That was the day I met the great men and ladies I've walked with so far for a year. I say walk cause we've had to do more than work together as colleagues.

Its 10.51am on a thursday morning and work has been grounded by the fellows from Ogbe-Igbuya community of Benin city. They claim to have been changed from a feeder (Resevation/GRA feeder) to another (Evboutubu Feeder) about three years ago. When I say Feeder, I do not mean a baby's feeding bottle. Instead, I mean a source of power supply. This source according to them do not supply enough power to them. Its epileptic they say. They could have about an hour today and then they might not have for the next two days.

I have been to the community. The power available isn't like you have it at Lagos but then, not so good. I spent about four days working on the High Voltage Distribution System project (HVDS project -A story for another day) before I was drafted to complete a section of a report requested for by the United States Trade and Development Agency.

One thing in business I know is that you try to cut down on losses when you are losing big time (and Yes, Our Distribution Company is losing) and as an engineer, you run your system optimally (If a feeder is overloaded and there is another that is working below 50% duty, I would increase the load on that if possible). I do not know what caused the change to the other feeder but I know something isn't right.

I stopped typing about two hours ago to edit some content on the USTDA metering report as Mr Owie, the Principal Manager, Commercial called for me to work on it and send to someone that would verify the contents before forwarding to the MD's Office.

Now I continue. The protesters are still here. Its 12.34pm. They absolutely crashed operations at the Head office for the day. Whew! I'm kinda trapped in here but given that I'm choosing not to eat till evening, It has no effect (Food would have been sourced out there). I get to read. Hmm. Its been a while I sat down to read for a long time. I have two books in my bag. I'm choosing to read one though.

It's called the 'Miracle of Seed Faith' written by Oral Roberts. An old book with some teachings that still stands. So while the protesters are outside, and no outstanding Job to do, this book is going to be the leverage for the moment.

09/10/2015

Did I get to read the book? For a while, Yes. But work came over. First the new payments for meters(A lot of payments this time as people rushed to pay a day before the increase would be formalised) and then the USTDA report again.

The Many Walks with Kiity

Ever heard of the benefits of 30 minutes walk everyday?  I bet you have. Walking is a great way to improve or maintain our overall health. Just 30 minutes every make a change in your life. I took a walk for 1 hour once and I felt the effects. It was about 8km in all and I could feel my legs tingling when I finished. The next day, the muscles spoke and I was happy.  Kiity and I enjoy taking lots of walks. We did that a lot in Nigeria both individually and together. I enjoy it more when we do it together. Since we arrived the Netherlands in April this year, we have had several walks and I enjoy it more when we do it together.   Walking over a small bridge, De Poel, Amstelveen I decide to take walks for many reasons;  - To exercise. - To clear my head and away from the familiar - To see the environment and new places. - To breathe a different air. The most important is to talk. This is when I do it with Kiity. We have to talk about something as we go.  W...

An Open Letter to Kunfaiyeoluwa

I would love to draft a long letter to you. But the thoughts and words captured above say a lot that I want you to carry on for the rest of your life.  You indeed have a legacy to cherish and to build on. Your mum, grand-mums and great-grand-mums are one of the strongest and determined persons I have met and I know the seed lives on in you. Yes, I did come to know them all and I see the foundation you have to lean on. You are Royalty both Spiritually and by Land Origin. 1 Pet 2:9 reminds me of your spiritual royalty and the knowledge that you are of the origin of men who have reigned as Kings in Nigeria both in Kogi and Ondo States. Therefore, let the words scribed above by the Queen of the Southern Nigerian Kingdom bring light to you today and for every other day. I was watching a movie during the past weekend and it showcased a Father who stood by his daughter even when the whole community were against her. I would like you to know that I would be by your side from Day 1 t...

Love & More - Act 2

It has been a while we had the movie night. We have some history with movie nights I must say. From the times in Akure, Lagos and now, Amstelveen.  Whenever we watch, it exciting. I enjoyed the action movies and then the love ones. I enjoy all of it anyway cos we watch together. the taking it back so you understand better is not so fun for me sha..me i have moved on in cases like that.....but anyways, i agree with you.......better to understand the context. When did we start watching movies together?   Before we got married I guess. I guess this was in Lagos before I took the job with BEDC. Not sure if we watched any on our own or always with Bukky and Busayo. But anyways..the history was formed. Cinemas. one thing I loved about Igbatoro, Akure was the Filmhouse Cinemas at the Akure Mall.  and then those cozy evening when we did nothing but watch a move together. Do you always stay up when we watch? Now I have to write that you might stay up with the first movie but...
