SWDNF Stories - The Fall

Sometimes I think back to 2011.

This time was at Obafemi Awolowo University. I was in the Post graduate hall. Specifically Room E103. It was a long stretch to the bathroom and people prefer to brush their teeth behind the room using the back door. Even people on other floors above. The block was a three storey building by the way. And we would use the sachet water. The only issue was that the back of the rooms or front for some other blocks ended up being slippery.

Now here comes the fall.

On this day, I could not get into the room through the front door. So I opted to use the back door. As I climbed on a platform to access the cubicle before the door. I slipped. The platform was about 1 - 1.3m high. And I fell with both legs. I expected to fall with my back or my head down as I had lost grip. But then, I landed on my two legs. It did not make sense. I looked at the building behind for anyone that could have seen me but there was no one. It still does not make sense today when I think of it.

What could have happened?
I still do not know. I do not have anybody to ask. I think something strange happened this day. I gave thanks to God and I still do give thanks when I recall. I probably would not be here typing this today. But here I am. Still grateful.

An Open Letter to Kunfaiyeoluwa

I would love to draft a long letter to you. But the thoughts and words captured above say a lot that I want you to carry on for the rest of your life.  You indeed have a legacy to cherish and to build on. Your mum, grand-mums and great-grand-mums are one of the strongest and determined persons I have met and I know the seed lives on in you. Yes, I did come to know them all and I see the foundation you have to lean on. You are Royalty both Spiritually and by Land Origin. 1 Pet 2:9 reminds me of your spiritual royalty and the knowledge that you are of the origin of men who have reigned as Kings in Nigeria both in Kogi and Ondo States. Therefore, let the words scribed above by the Queen of the Southern Nigerian Kingdom bring light to you today and for every other day. I was watching a movie during the past weekend and it showcased a Father who stood by his daughter even when the whole community were against her. I would like you to know that I would be by your side from Day 1 t...

The Vacation Idea

Kiity and I differ on this. What is a vacation? What is a retreat? Kiity made me think of retreat. To me, every time away from work is a vacation. This is my simple definition.  I recall when I was studying. The same definition applied. Anytime away from school is a vacation. When the school is not in session, we are on vacation. The same has applied to my work life.  But Kiity sees it differently. She had to google this and the AI overview gave the feedback below: A vacation is primarily for relaxation and fun, while a retreat focuses on personal growth, self-reflection, and often includes structured activities aimed at improving well-being Kiity is right by this definition. I have told her.  In my own world, it seems definitions are simple and when adhered to, makes my life simple. Where did all this come from? It came from a post Kiity made on Polarsteps about "our first Family Vacation". I looked at it and said we had done a lot of vacations in the past based o...

The Journey to 85 (Part 2)

Dont get it twisted. This is still 85kg. Not an age thingy. I woke up this morning to check my weight and it was 95kg on the dot.  This time I was happy. I was happy because i had hit 98.7kg some 4 weeks ago. I also decided to wear a particular shirt and it fit. Now that was something.  Have I been exercising? Or eating eight? The latter. No. The first, maybe. I stumbled on this by error. A friend triggered me to cycle to work and I did. Never mind that I had been saying I would do it as I see several people riding their bicycles all the way to Amsterdam. Anyways, I made the trip and I have been giddy about it since.  I have romanced the use of bus for over a year now that using the bike feels too sweet to use. I get to see other riders along the way and enjoy the view of Amstelveen and Amsterdam.  I should say it is also faster than using the bus sometimes especially if the first bus would be the 357. That takes 40mins for me in all. But with the bike. M...
